EMTEP was originally setup in 2003 as a voluntary group by a few\u00a0 local young BME individuals (in their early twenties) in the west end of Newcastle. These young individuals where greatly concerned about the many often ignored and greatly neglected negative grass roots problems severely impacting local BME young people and also the wider community.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The young BME volunteers seized the initiative, organised themselves and endeavoured to take affirmative and effective social action. Being young they had a unique insight into issues faced by BME young people and the local communities. They went into the troublesome local areas and directly engaged with the individuals and groups. They adopted a holistic approach based around empathy and understanding enshrined in a unique mentoring & befriending engagement.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In 2004 EMTEP attained charity status and has since progressed many initiatives and projects, and collaborative works across the North-east and UK. In the process some of EMTEP’s efforts have attained regional and national merit, and some have even had an international dimension.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
